In the 1992 NHL entry draft, the Philadelphia
Flyers took the son of former hockey great Darryl Sittler as their first round pick, 7th overall. Ryan Sittler was a big left-winger on his way to the University of Michigan and the Philadelphia Flyers
hoped, great things in the NHL. But Sittler wasn't able to follow in his old man's footsteps, never having played a game in the National Hockey League.
After Michigan, he went back and forth between the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League and a bunch of teams in the East Coast Hockey League. The Flyers
seem to have given up on him by 1995 when Sittler had a short stint with the St John's Maple Leafs, minor league affiliate of the team (Toronto Maple Leafs
) his father is best known to have played for. Ryan Sittler's professional hockey career seems to have ended in 1998-99 with the Charlotte Checkers of the ECHL.
