Joel Savage was a junior prospect with the Victoria Cougars of the Western Hockey League. He was drafted in the first round, 13th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 1989. Savage spent a couple of years with the Rochester Americans of the AHL and got his one and only shot in the NHL with the Sabres in 1990-91. He played in 3 games and recorded one assist. The right wingers then played for the Canadian National team, various teams in the AHL and IHL before taking his trade to Germany in 1995-96. He has continued to play in Europe and finished the 2003-04 season with Zug of the Swiss league.
